I’ve paid two visits to The Devil’s Punch Bowl at Hindhead over the past two weeks, firstly on a scouting mission for walking routes and secondly to conduct a 1-2-1 workshop which was then followed by a 2-hour stroll to scout out some more trails.
Both days were rather grey and murky, with mist and low cloud appearing on the second outing. Due to this, I felt that the images I captured were best suited to a monochrome treatment.
The area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as it contains one of Britain’s rapidly disappearing habitats – Lowland Heath. Globally, this is rarer than the Amazonian Rainforest!
The location has several walking trails marked by the National Trust, in some parts you need to keep to them as paths are fenced and in other areas you are free to roam out over the open common. So it’s a lovely place to go walking with a camera, having ancient woodland, open heathland and great viewpoints atop the hillside.
I’ll be back again over the next few weeks to finalise planning for the photography walk I have coming up.
